Welcome to a brief tutorial that will explain how to get the most from our blank media.
Compatibility
To check that the your home DVD player will be able to read the format of DVD you have written to eg +R / -R / RW etc.. please refer to your user manual or the manufacturers website.
You can also find compatibility information of DVD players here:
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers
This website will show the capabilites of your player and even customer reviews of its performance.
Also, please check that your DVD Writer can write to the format of the disc eg, +R / -R / Dual Layer etc..
You can find information on DVD Writers here:
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters
We also need to check that your DVD writer is using the latest firmware.
Firmware is software that is physically on your dvd writer that can enhance its functionality, newer firmware can offer extra functions or improve existing performance. If you do not have the newest firmware you may not be able to write at the fastest speeds. You can check your firmware version by looking at the hardware properties in device manager, or by using a tool like DVD Info Pro.
You can find the newest firmware at your manufacturers website, or at the firmware page here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php
You can also verify the media code and possible writing speeds with your hardware using some free software like:
DVD Info Pro
If you select the 'Media' button you can get information as shown below. In this example of a K16 DVD-R we can see that we can write to this at 16x and the media code is MCC 03RG20.
